TIMPSON FIRST ASSEMBLY TRACES BEGINNINGS TO FALL OF 1937

 

Timpson Assembly was organized under the leadership of Sis. Pearl Collins in the fall of 1937, following the harvest. She obtained permission from Mr. Reuben Molloy to conduct services in his tomatoe shed. During this time the attendance reached an average of 50 & 75.

The church later moved to the Whitton Building ajacent to Automatic Gas. In 1940 three lots were purchased on the corner of Houston Street and Highway 59, from Willie & Leonard Tyre. In the Spring of 1943 the church moved into its newly completed facilities, where it has continued up to this date. Presently serving as the Fellowship Hall, hosting homecoming dinners, wedding & baby showers & birthday parties. 

 

Pastor Adams assumed Pastor in March of 1970 and immediatly began a building program  In 1971 the building was remodeled,  adding an educational wing, nursery, foyer and restrooms. Additionally the house ajacent to the church was purchased and remodeled. The churched flurished in the community during this time, averaging 134 for Sunday morning services. 

 

In 1980 three lots directly behind the church were purchased for a new sanctuary. Building began in 1983 for a sanctuary that holds 400 and additional educational wing and pastoral offices. The church continues to be a strong presence in the community and surrounding areas, under the leadership of Pastor Adams.
